Taking train from Rome to Naple and then to Pompeii, a total of 2.5 hours ride

This Roman town was buried completely in ash when Mt Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. Time stopped and the town preserved underneath the ash until it was excavated 1900 years later. Everything remained as it was at the time of the eruption.
